The angels of the Holy Ghost are all much more difficult to grasp than those of the Son, who, even in the highest choirs, are still somehow comprehensible to us. Thus, in the highest Ring of Adoration around the Throne of God above all the heavens—of these three choirs closest to God, the Seraphim, Cherubim and Thrones—it is the Cherubim that are the most comprehensible to us as angels of power and of the Word, as companions of the Son of God and as being ordered towards His Redemption.

We know, however, that the Choir of Cherubim is divided into three parts as a reflection of the Triune God. A third part looks to the Father, who gives the Son, the Word, and thus also all God’s Word in its living power, truth, wisdom and beauty. A third part looks to the Son, who comes to earth as Light, as the Sword, the Way, the Treader of the Winepress, the Good Shepherd, Mediator and Judge. And a third part of the Cherubim looks to the Spirit, Who pours out His Gifts of salvation and consolation into the Holy Church. To this latter third belongs also

Saint Razael,

the Cherub of the Spirit, who stands today as our intercessor before the Throne of God. He is the Angel of the Holy Ghost, who pours out the wisdom received from the Father and the Son upon the Holy Church.

All power and wisdom that comes to us from the Father via the holy angels bears the characteristic of statics. It shapes and fills man’s form of being, and is the hallmark of his character and abilities.

All power and wisdom that comes to us from the Son via the holy angels bears the characteristic of dynamism. In this dynamic the missionaries go out to the people in darkness and the shadow of death and the good seed of the Word of God that has fallen into the ground grows in the prepared hearts and bears fruit a hundredfold.

Saint Razael, however, clearly demonstrates the characteristic of the angels of the Spirit: like a storm, he roars over the apostles. Now all their fear has vanished as if it had never been there. They preach loudly and unconcernedly. The gift of knowledge makes their words clear and true. Saint Razael imparts it to them… but not just this time and not just to them… Every one of us who offers his strength to his Lord and God and who allows himself to be moulded and guided by the Holy Ghost, will also be guided by His angels and experience the profound wisdom of the Word of God, the will of God and the love of God in himself.

Prayer: O Holy Ghost, Lord and giver of life! We thank You for all the graces and gifts that You send us through Your angels, which we may accept, marvel at and keep. We especially thank you for the gift of wisdom, which your holy angel, Saint Razael, is still allowed to pour out on the Holy Church and which we receive in the Holy Scriptures like thirsty people in the midst of the desert of this world. Amen.
