VI. Choir3rd Sunday after Epiphany
“Serving mercy”

How timely is the Epistle! “Do not repay evil for evil; be intent on doing good… Be at peace with all men. If your enemy is hungry, feed him, and if he is thirsty, give him something to drink. Do not let evil overcome you, but overcome evil with good.” See the connection between these words and the angel of this day, the angel of serving mercy! He teaches us to understand the term neighbour correctly again, because our neighbour is not just our closest family or our dear friend and no one else. Your neighbour is everyone whom God draws close to you, be it through a community, a job or by providing help. But your enemy is also your neighbour! God also draws him close to you so that you can reconcile him through love and convert him from his enmity, so that you can at least pray and atone for him with all your heart. This is serving mercy, which no one sees but God alone, and which is therefore many times more valuable than public charity. This is what Saint Phatiel tells us:

Following the Lord is not only enduring, but forgiving and loving from the heart!
