Many, many angels form this wonderful shape of a dove, which once took Mary, the Bride of the Spirit, the Mother of the Son, and the Daughter of the Father, from this earthly valley of tears and carried Her triumphantly home to eternal bliss.
Today, on this day of remembrance and celebration of Mary’s Assumption into Heaven, God once again reveals this dove formed of angels, whose large white wings are lost in the clouds. At the beginning of these wings, two magnificent angels shine forth:
- Saint Hanael, the cherub of the Spirit, who is known as Praise of God and was the guardian angel of a saint, and
- Saint Phael, the third of the seven from the Choir of the High Dominions, who carry the seven Gifts of the Holy Spirit, and the companion of Mary in Her Motherhood. Standing before God like a candlestick, he holds the gift of counsel in the image of a bowl full of oil. In the oil of counsel lies the power of readiness, of perseverance, the beauty of goodness and gentleness, the charisma of healing and the power of miracles.
This adoring of being in the presence of God and the everlasting readiness and strength to accept and carry out the will of God were indeed the two great heavenly wings that invisibly surrounded Mary and carried Her throughout Her Life.
Now they have become reality. With the power of God’s undivided Love, they struck the earth and, in the power of the Divine Will, lifted this unique flower of love up before the Throne of the Most High in jubilant praise of God.
There are six cherubim of the Spirit with Saint Hanael, and seven high dominions including Saint Phael. In their midst, the cherub, Saint Muriel, the companion of the apostles, carried his Queen home on his arms and wings.
Prayer: Lord, Almighty God, Who, through your angels, carried the Body and Soul of the Most Pure Virgin Mary into Heaven, let us often hear the beating of their wings, that we may become aware of eternity and of the greatness of Mary, our dearest Mother. Through Her intercession, we pray that you may one day bring us home with our heavenly protectors the holy angels. Amen.
